1 Corinthians 2:1
And I brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God.
a. NLT: When I first came to you, dear brothers and sisters, I didn’t use lofty words and impressive wisdom to tell you God’s secret plan.
b. NIV: And so it was with me, brothers and sisters. When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God.

1). When Paul first came to Corinth in Acts 18 he had just come from Athens.
a). Acts 18:1 After these things Paul departed from Athens, and came to Corinth;
2). Athens at this time was the world capital of philosophy. It was in Athens that Paul was forced to appear before the philosophers on Mars Hill. When Paul left Athens he left a body of believers in Athens.
a). Acts 17:34 Howbeit certain men clave unto him, and believed: among which was Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.
3). Paul later wrote in 1 Corinthians 16:15 of the household of Stephanas as being the firstfruits of Achaia; Athens was in Achaia not in Macedonia as was Thessalonica and Berea.

1). In a court of law if I testify, I am giving my side of the story, I am supporting or contradicting what someone else has said. God’s testimony is what is written in the New Testament of what He did for man through the death and resurrection of Christ Jesus.
