1 Timothy 5:9

1 Timothy 5:9

Let not a widow be taken into the number under threescore years old, having been the wife of one man,

a. ASV: Let none be enrolled as a widow under threescore years old, having been the wife of one man,
b. YLT: A widow -- let her not be enrolled under sixty years of age, having been a wife of one husband,
d. Amplified Bible Classic: Let no one be put on the roll of widows [who are to receive church support] who is under sixty years of age or who has been the wife of more than one man;
1. “Let not a widow be taken into the number under threescore years old…”

a. [Let] not [Strong: 3361 mḗ, may; a primary particle of qualified negation (whereas G3756 expresses an absolute denial); (adverb) not, (conjunction) lest; also (as an interrogative implying a negative answer (whereas G3756 expects an affirmative one)) whether:—any but (that), × forbear, + God forbid, + lack, lest, neither, never, no (X wise in), none, nor, (can-)not, nothing, that not, un(-taken), without. Often used in compounds in substantially the same relations.]
b. [a] widow [Strong: 5503  chḗra, khay'-rah; feminine of a presumed derivative apparently from the base of G5490 through the idea of deficiency; a widow (as lacking a husband), literally or figuratively:—widow.]
c. [be] taken into the number [Strong: 2639 katalégō, kat-al-eg'-o; from G2596 and G3004 (in its original meaning); to lay down, i.e. (figuratively) to enrol:—take into the number.
d. under [Strong: 1640 elássōn, el-as'-sone; comparative of the same as G1646; smaller (in size, quantity, age or quality):—less, under, worse, younger.]
e. threescore [Strong: 1835 hexḗkonta, hex-ay'-kon-tah; the tenth multiple of G1803; sixty:—sixty(-fold), threescore.]
f. years [old] [Strong: 2094 étos, et'-os; apparently a primary word; a year:—year.]

2.  “...having been the wife of one man,”

a. having been [Strong: 1096 gínomai, ghin'-om-ahee; a prolongation and middle voice form of a primary verb; to cause to be ("gen"-erate), i.e. (reflexively) to become (come into being), used with great latitude (literal, figurative, intensive, etc.):—arise, be assembled, be(-come, -fall, -have self), be brought (to pass), (be) come (to pass), continue, be divided, draw, be ended, fall, be finished, follow, be found, be fulfilled, + God forbid, grow, happen, have, be kept, be made, be married, be ordained to be, partake, pass, be performed, be published, require, seem, be showed, × soon as it was, sound, be taken, be turned, use, wax, will, would, be wrought.]
b. [the] wife [Strong: 1135 gynḗ, goo-nay'; probably from the base of G1096; a woman; specially, a wife:—wife, woman.]
c. of one [Strong: 1520 heîs, hice; a primary numeral; one:—a(-n, -ny, certain), + abundantly, man, one (another), only, other, some.]
d. man 435 anḗr, an'-ayr; a primary word (compare G444); a man (properly as an individual male):—fellow, husband, man, sir.
